One by one

Well hello all, one by one the weeks tick by and one by one we get closer to getting out of this nasty place. As promised an update on Corporals Course: I am the honor graduate, I won by .021 of a percent. The top five were all within one percent of each other and the competition was close. So, they say they will buy me my NCO sword but we shall see how that goes. On sept. 11 we were cleared to fly the good old red white and blue over our base. It is funny that so many are concerned about our perception here that we are not allowed to fly the flag over our base. Stickers of old glory aren't even allowed to be on trucks (truly the worst decision ever). We also visited some refugees. This was the first time going to this camp and, interestingly enough, the camp is not located in Iraq. Technically it isn't in any country because it is in between two. So, as usual, tensions were high since we were about fifty meters away from another countries armed forces--and trust me we were ready to rumble. We all rolled out there with .50 cal guns on our trucks and we had SLAP rounds in them. For those of you who don't know what those are they are special rounds that will penetrate at least six inches of solid steel armor. We were more than serious. The refugees at this camp were not happy to see us at all. For some reason they were all upset and would come running up to our UN personnel and yell at them. Our only purpose there was to keep the UN people safe but when someone would get pushed back or tripped for getting too close they would scold us for doing it. Have I ever ever mentioned how much I dislike the UN? From there not to much else going on . We are in the Islamic Holly month and it has been more than exciting. I look forward to next week and hope you do as well. stay classy- Travis

Congrats on being the winner? Can we use that term? It has to be frustrating when you are in those situations and there feels like there isn't a whole lot you can do. I hope that the month doesn't get too exciting... a nice calm ending would be an OK thing....Do you have video cams there?
